A woman has died after being hit by a Land Rover in a crash on Friday (February 16) afternoon.

The 74-year-old woman was on foot near Asda on Ormesby Road in Middlesbrough when she was hit by the black four-by-four.

She was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries where she later died.

Cleveland Police said her family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

It happened just before 1.30pm on Friday afternoon.

The driver of the Land Rover, a 39-year-old man, has been arrested in connection with the incident. He has since been released on police bail.

An investigation is now underway.

Detectives are looking to speak to any witnesses or for anyone with dashcam footage or who saw the vehicle around the time of the incident.

A force spokesperson said: “Officers investigating the incident are appealing any witnesses who have not yet spoken to the police, to come forward.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the Land Rover in the area at the time or has any dashcam footage, is asked to contact Cleveland Police.

“Dial 101 and speak to the Force Control Room, quoting reference number 028472.”
