A Darlington shop has showcased a fresh new look after reopening following a four-week closure programme of renovations.

The Co-op store on Fulthorpe Avenue, Mowden, re-opened on Thursday (February 15) with a fresh new look and layout following the improvements.

The convenience retailer’s Mowden store supports 17 local jobs and now has extended opening hours between 7am and 10pm daily.

Designed to serve and support the community, Co-op’s Mowden store includes customer car parking, and a cash machine to provide access to cash in the community.

Parcel collection services are available through Amazon and DPD, and the online home delivery of groceries can be ordered through Deliveroo and Uber Eats, with orders picked fresh in the store, and then delivered locally.

A soft plastic recycle unit is also available in-store to enable the community to recycle ‘soft plastics’ including crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals and yoghurt pots, biscuit wrappers and, pet food pouches - ensuring all Co-op’s food packaging is recyclable through either local authority kerbside collections, or the in-store recycling unit.

Co-op’s Area Operations Manager, Andy Brown, said: “The whole team is delighted to have had the opportunity to invest in improving the store to serve and support the community.

"We aim to operate at the heart of local life, and we’ve worked to develop the range, choice and added services to create a compelling offer, conveniently.

"This includes a focus on delivering member value so that the people who own our business, Co-op's member-owners, benefit every time they shop.”

He added: "In January, Co-op launched a significant new round of member prices within its Food business which saw a further 117 everyday low prices including, for the first time, branded goods.

"This followed the biggest-ever investment in convenience pricing last year, where Member prices were introduced on 175 everyday essential products."
