A child has suffered ‘serious’ injuries following a collision which closed a busy road yesterday evening.
Cleveland Police have confirmed a boy, 8, was taken to hospital with a broken leg and serious head injuries following a collision on Cargo Fleet Lane in Middlesbrough shortly before 6pm on Wednesday (February 14).
The incident involved a blue Vauxhall Adam and took place near Ruth Avenue.
North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) confirmed they treated a patient at the scene.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Police are appealing for information after an eight-year-old boy was seriously injured in a collision on Cargo Fleet Lane last night.
“The incident which involved a blue Vauxhall Adam, happened at 17:56hrs yesterday, Wednesday 14 February, on Cargo Fleet Lane in Middlesbrough, around 20 metres north of Ruth Avenue.
“The eight-year-old boy sustained a broken leg and serious head injuries, and was taken to James Cook University Hospital.
“Officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dash cam footage or CCTV to call 101, quoting reference SE24027349.”
A NEAS spokesperson said: “"We received a call at 17.54h today (14 FEB) to attend a road traffic collision on Cargo Fleet Lane involving a pedestrian and a car.
“We dispatched a paramedic ambulance crew, rapid response paramedic, clinical team leader and a doctor.
“One patient was treated on scene with a head injury before being taken to hospital."
Cleveland Police closed the road in both directions between Homerton Road and Cobblewood at the time of the incident.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: “Due to a road traffic collision Cargo Fleet Lane is closed in both directions in between Homerton Road and Cobblewood.
“Please use alternative routes until the road has been reopened.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
