A Met Office spokesperson said: "A dull and rather damp day with overcast low cloud and hill fog over modest high ground.
"Outbreaks of rain and drizzle, occasionally heavy. Mild with light winds, becoming breezy over western hills. Maximum temperature 12 °C.
"Overcast cloud with rain and drizzle at times throughout the night, rain turning heavy for a time towards dawn. Gentle winds and rather mild."
