A postcode in the North East has been revealed as one of the UK’s “coolest” to move to this year.

It was an area in Ouseburn, Newcastle which featured in the “10 coolest postcodes to move to in 2024” by The Times, but where exactly is it and why?

The publisher said: “Want to go off-grid in the far north of Scotland or is inner-city living more your thing?

Why is this postcode in Newcastle one of the 'coolest' to move to in 2024?

The NE6 postcode in Ouseburn has it all from links to pottery and glassmaking to a “glut of excellent boozers.”

Victoria Brzezinski at The Times explained: “One of Newcastle’s original industrial ’burbs, bustling Ouseburn follows the Ouseburn River down to the Tyne.

“The postcode has historic links to pottery and glassmaking; these days the former mills and warehouses are home to (unpretentious) artists’ collectives and design studios.

“Postindustrial design geeks will be in their element: Richy Almond, founder of the local design firm Novocastrian (and staunch Geordie), calls the nearby ‘pioneering but deeply controversial’ modernist Byker Wall development ‘Newcastle’s own Barbican’.

“Fancy a night on the toon? You’ll find a glut of excellent boozers replete with pint-toting, Salomon-shod drinkers at OG venues such as the Cluny at one end of the ‘Burn’ and the Free Trade Inn at the other.

“For more variety still, Cobalt Studios, an artsy community space, offers everything from gong baths to screen-printing and DJ sessions.

“Alternatively, bag a table at Cook House for foraged, and pickled goodness in stripped-back industrial surrounds, natch.”
