A man has been taken to hospital and negotiators stood down after a police stand-off.
Officers were first called to Coronation Terrace in of Stanley, County Durham at about 9.15pm on Monday (January 12) after concerns for a man's welfare.
A large ‘containment zone’ was erected around the house for ‘public safety’ reasons, police said.
Negotiators worked at the scene overnight and into this morning (Tuesday) communicating with the man, 51.
The stand-off concluded shortly before midday as he was taken to hospital for treatment. Paramedics had been on stand-by since the early hours of the morning.
The man's condition is not known.
Police are expected to remain at the scene for some time and an investigation is underway.
A Durham Constabulary spokesperson said: “A 51-year-old man has been taken to hospital for treatment following the incident in Stanley.
“Negotiators have now stood down, but a scene will remain in place for some time.
“A police investigation is ongoing.
“Once again, we’d like to thank residents for their co-operation and patience during the incident.”
