The victim of an alleged 'hit and run' murder has been named locally, as tributes and balloons have been left at the side of the road where he died.
Emergency services were called to Ingleby Barwick, near Stockton, just before 11.35pm when a white Citroen Berlingo van appeared to have been intentionally driven towards a group of people on a footpath.
A 60-year-old man died at the scene and two others were seriously injured in the incident and were taken to hospital.
He has now been named locally as Brian Darby or 'Bri'.
The driver left the scene at Myton Way at the junction with The Rings, before the arrival of police and the van which officers believe was used in the incident was found abandoned nearby.
Two men, 29 and 66, both from Ingleby Barwick, were arrested in connection with the incident - and Cleveland Police confirmed on Monday (February 12) that the men have now been charged.
The two men, Shaun Breeze, 29, and Martin Breeze, 66, have been charged with murder and three counts of attempted murder and are due to appear at Teesside Magistrates' Court on Monday.
Senior Investigating Officer Temp Detective Chief Inspector Mathew Hollingsworth said: “We would like to thank residents for their patience and co-operation while numerous officers remain in the area conducting enquiries, and would again appeal for anyone with information, doorbell, dashcam or CCTV footage who has not yet spoken to police to get in touch.
“Please phone Cleveland Police on 101 quoting ref 024363.”
In the aftermath of the incident, bouquets of flowers, balloons, and heartfelt tribute cards have been laid along Myton Way - paying tribute to 'Brian'.
