A major North East road has been reopened after being made "impassable" by snow.
The A66, though County Durham, was closed in both ways between the A67 (Bowes) and the A685 (Brough) last night.

It remained closed for much of the morning, but has now been reopened, National Highways has confirmed.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: "The A66 in County Durham and Cumbria has now re-opened both ways between the A67 (Bowes) and the A685 (Brough) following the earlier snowfall.
"Delays may remain in the area but should now start to ease. Thanks for your patience today."
According to the AA, the closure was necessary to ensure the safety of those travelling on the road, after snow fell heavily in the area overnight, making it difficult for drivers to navigate the route.
