Snow falling in the south of County Durham has already closed roads today - but most of the region is set to see warmer temperatures and heavy rain today.
Today is expected to be cloudy with spells of rain, these heavy at times, and also falling as sleet and snow over the highest ground this morning. Wind will gradually ease through the afternoon, but it will still feel cold with a maximum temperature of 6 degrees.

Overnight dry and clearer conditions will gradually arrive, except across Northumberland, although patchy fog or low cloud is likely to form. Minimum temperature 2 °C.
