A yellow weather warning for snow has been issued for parts of the North East this week as the Met Office predicts low temperatures and travel disruption.

Durham, Darlington and Weardale have all been included in the Met Office's latest yellow weather warning predicting snow on Thursday and Friday this week (February 8 and 9).

The warning runs from 3am on Thursday to 3am on Friday and stretches from Cumbria and the Scottish border down to Cambridgeshire and the Midlands in England.

Temperatures are set to drop to lows of 2C in Darlington this week as the weather warning comes into place, and is set to feel like -1C the following day.

Here's what forecasters have warned to expect:

  • There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected
  • There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off
  • There is a small chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel
