Nearly 200 homes in Sunderland have been left without power this morning following an unscheduled power cut, Northern Powergrid has confirmed.

Homes in the Bishopwearmouth area of Sunderland with the postcode SR4 7TF have suffered a power cut today (February 5).

Northern Powergrid have confirmed that a total of 190 homes, which reside beside Sunderland Royal Hospital are affected.

There is currently no estimate as to when power will be restored.

However, the Powergrid has confirmed that cable issues have caused the cut.

Their website states: "The power cut affecting your property has been caused by an unexpected problem with the cables or equipment that serve your area.

"If you need to report an emergency, please call 105."
