County Durham's motorists will have nine road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

But drivers will be able to take some solace in the fact that all of them are only expected to cause slight delays, of less than 10 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that three closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

  • A1(M), from 7am December 2 2023 to 6.30am February 1 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M southbound, junction 58 to junction 57 hard shoulder lane closure for concrete protection for bridge strike.
  • A167, from 3pm November 24 2022 to 8pm March 18 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M, junction 59 interchange, 24/7 Lane closure for investigation works for structures.
  • A19, from 8pm September 18 2023 to 5.30pm February 25 2025, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A19 north and southbound, A182 Interchange, carriageway and lane closures for maintenance works.

And a further six closures will begin over the next two weeks:

  • A1(M), from 8pm January 30 to 6am January 31, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M northbound, junction 60, lane closures for white lining works.
  • A1(M), from 8pm January 30 to 6am February 1, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M North and southbound, junction 60 to 61 lane closure for Vehicle safety fence repair.
  • A1(M), from 8pm January 30 to 6am February 1, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M northbound and southbound, junction 61 to jct 62, lane closures for structural inspection works.
  • A1(M), from 8pm January 31 to 6am February 1, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M northbound and southbound, junction 59 to junction 60, lane closure for electrical works.

  • A1(M), from 8pm February 3 to 6am February 5, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M northbound, junction 63 entry slip. Lane closure for sign renewal works.
  • A1(M), from 8pm February 10 to 6am February 11, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M North and southbound, junction 62 to 63 lane closures for Vehicle Safety fence repair.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
