A car hit a set of traffic at a crossroads in Darlington near car garages after a crash on Thursday (February 1). 

Emergency services attended McMullen Road in the town at about 9pm, following reports of a collision on the stretch of the road, near the Mazda and Nissan garages. 

Police and ambulance attended the incident, which left parts hanging from the car and traffic lights.

During the incident, the road remained open but police diverted traffic so that the car involved and its occupants were safe. 

It's since been confirmed that the person in the car, a man in his 30s, wasn't injured and didn't require further treatment in hospital.

Durham Police have put out a brief statement about the incident about the nature of the incident. 

A spokesperson for the police force said: "We were alerted shortly after 9pm last night to an incident on McMullen Road, in Darlington in which a Toyota has collided with traffic lights close to the Mazda garage.

"The driver, a man in his 30s, is not believed to have suffered significant injuries in the incident."
