Work has satrted on the construction of two new operating theatres in the North East.
The new facilities will replace Nuffield Health Tees Hospital's existing 43-year-old operating theatres.
The goal is to provide superior care to both NHS and privately funded patients in the local community.
The construction project, being managed by Vanguard Healthcare Solutions, involves a two-storey extension designed to accommodate the new theatres.
The construction began last month, with the finished theatres expected to expand the range of surgical procedures available to local residents.
The project is expected to be completed by September this year. In the meantime, normal operations will continue in the original theatres.
Health System Director at Nuffield Health Tees Hospital, Stacey Brunton, said: "It’s fantastic news to start construction of our hospital’s two new operating theatres, in collaboration with Vanguard Healthcare Solutions.
"They will provide leading clinical facilities for our consultants and talented clinicians to provide best-in-class connected healthcare to support the health and wellbeing needs of NHS and privately-paying patients."
These patients include local people requiring procedures in joint replacements, spinal care, eyecare, prostate issues, gynaecology and women’s health services.
The new operating theatres will be modular buildings, constructed using modern methods.
This approach enables the majority of the construction to occur off-site, significantly reducing the disruption to the hospital and its nearby residents.
Additional parking spaces are also planned for the hospital site, in Stockton, as a part of the construction project.
