Several homes were said to have been evacuated and one person has been hospitalised after a car crashed into a Darlington flat just after midnight.
Pictures have emerged of the grey Audi which crashed into the side of the flats on Brankin Road in Darlington just after 12:30am this morning (February 2).
Pieces of the heavily damaged car including its doors, windows and chairs can all be seen lying alongside the wreck.
Emergency services including police and ambulance crews were also present, and one person was rescued from the vehicle by the fire service.
According to eyewitness reports, multiple people including an OAP were evacuated from their homes as passengers from the crashed Audi were cut out by the fire brigade.
One resident, Marcus Bradley, says he heard a "very loud bang" followed by "shouting" just after the crash.
He said: "The grey Audi missed the junction and carried on into the signpost, then went on to the block of flats and caused significant damage.
"There were two people in the Audi and they were cut free by the fire brigade."
Another image shows the car has been moved away from the home and the wall, which has sustained damage, has been blocked off.
A NEAS spokesperson confirmed they took one person to hospital.
They said: "We received a call at 12.38am this morning (Friday 2 February) to reports of a road traffic incident on Brankin Road in Darlington.
"We dispatched one ambulance crew and a clinical team leader to the scene. One patient was then transported to The James Cook University Hospital for further treatment."
A spokesperson from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) confirmed they were at the scene for just over an hour.
