A person has been hit by a train on the East Coast Mainline between Newcastle and Edinburgh.
Emergency services were called to railway tracks between the two locations at about 6pm, following reports of a welfare incident next to the tracks.
Following the incident, train operator LNER has confirmed that a person was hit by a train - with services impacted as a result.
A spokesperson for LNER said: "LNERUpdate: It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train.

"Services between Newcastle and Edinburgh are subject to delays and short-notice cancellations.
"Please be patient, we will update you as soon as we have further information."
Services between the two locations for the next hour are expected to be impacted.
