A luxury hotel in County Durham has been named as one of the UK’s best family hotels.

Rockcliffe Hall in Darlington was featured in the “50 best family hotels in the UK” list by The Telegraph.

The North East resort was praised for being both “entertaining and relaxing” which “hits all the right buttons.”

Commenting on the highly-praised list, The Telegraph said: “Even just one night at one of Britain’s best hotels can rejuvenate a family; escape from everyday life offers a treat for everyone.

“With young children, on-site childcare and toddler-focused activities can be a stimulating distraction while parents slip off to a relaxation zone.”

What did The Telegraph say about Rockcliffe Hall?

Location: Hurworth Place, Hurworth-on-Tees, Darlington, County Durham, DL2 2DU

The Telegraph revealed: “Rockcliffe Hall is a five-star golf and spa resort that also welcomes children.

“There are generous dedicated times at the swimming pool for young people, plus cycling and falconry.

“Look out for the Alice in Wonderland-themed play cabins, adventure playground and seasonal nature trail.”

The travel expert's review says Rockcliffe Hall is both “an entertaining and relaxing resort hotel that hits all the right buttons.”

“For the active, there's golf (18-hole championship course), tennis, croquet, fishing on the nearby River Tees, free bike hire, plus walking and jogging routes around the estate.

“For the less active, there's a vast spa complex with nourishing treatments using Neom and Comfort Zone products (the latter’s facials are heavenly), decent-size pool, spa garden (£25 charge) with hydrotherapy pool and outdoor sauna. Dogs are allowed (£25 per night) in a handful of rooms.”

The review adds: “Staff are exceptionally well-trained, and balance their skills with a personable approach; they genuinely seem to make if their mission to ensure guests relax and enjoy their stay.”

When it comes to food and drink, there are different menus available at the Orangery (fine dining) and the Clubhouse.

According to The Telegraph, children’s menus are available in the Clubhouse, however, no under-12s are allowed in the Orangery.

There are also 61 bedrooms, some of which are interconnecting and have self-catering options.

On Tripadvisor, the hotel has a current rating of 4.5/5 out of 3,735 reviews.

When it comes to how the publisher reviewed all 50 hotels, The Telegraph explained: “Every hotel in this curated list has been visited by one of our expert reviewers, who are usually hosted on a complimentary basis.

“They stay for a minimum of one night, test at least one meal and trial other experiences (in this case, for instance, the family facilities) that the hotel might have to offer.”
