According to police, the incident saw youths throw stones at passing cars which went under the bridge.
It's believed that a stone damaged the front and rear windscreen of a car.
It is unclear it was the same vehicle that sustained both bits of damage, or whether it was two separate vehicles.
Police are investigation, and have urged people who witnessed or have dashcam footage of the incident to call Durham Police on 101, quoting reference CRI00526340.
