The owners of a popular pub have announced that they are having to step away from running it due to rising costs and family commitments.
Despite owning the pub for ten years, the owners of The Gables in Hemlington have made the 'painful decision' to close its doors.
In a heartfelt post online on Tuesday (January 30), the owners of The Gables, which is based on Hemlington Village Road, admitted that rising costs were impacting the business, but thanked its regular customers for the good times over the year.
The post, which appeared on social media, read: "Well, where do we start? Unfortunately due to exasperating rising costs, we have had to make the painful decision to call it a day, and we will not be reopening.
"We need to look to the future of our family and cannot continue to subsidise the business any further.
"We have had the most incredible ten years here at The Gables and shared our highs and lows with the most epic and fantastic team that we could ever have dreamed of, thank you all for making us so proud!

The post that was chosen to announce the closure added: "We will never forget watching you grow alongside us and become part of our family. It’s been an absolute privilege, we will have memories and stories to look back on and laugh about for years, we will love you all forever and you will always be our family.
"Finally, to our customers - the vast majority of you became so much more over the years and we thank you for your valued support throughout the highs, lows, dramas, the lockdowns and much much more.
"Please continue to support local businesses, we all need you as much as you need us!"
