Based on the 1982 film starring Richard Gere 80's classic An Officer and a Gentleman returns to Newcastle Theatre Royal after six years.
The captivating musical will sweep audiences off their feet featuring a smash-hit 80’s soundtrack.
An Officer and a Gentleman tells a tale of romance as a fearless young officer candidate Zack Mayo who meets a fiery Paula Pokrifki. Their story is one of love that transcends boundaries and awakens a passion between them that defies all odds.
The ups and downs of their romance created waves at Newcastle Theatre Royal in 2018 when the tour first arrived in the area – so Newcastle audiences are certainly in for a treat this time around.
Its return will see Luke Baker, Georgia Lennon, Jamal Crawford, Paul French and Sinead Long star as Zack Mayo, Paula Pokrifki, Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley, Sid Worley and Lynette Pomeroy.
Full of nostalgia, music from the show will feature the songs of Madonna, Bon Jovi, Cyndi Lauper and Blondie, showing how the power of an 80’s ballad will carry audiences through this turbulent love story.
An Officer and a Gentleman also features the award-winning song (Love Lift Us) Up Where We Belong.

The film's screenplay writer Douglas Day Stewart collaborated with Sharleen Cooper Cohen to create a book based on the production and the musical will be directed by the Artistic Director of Curve, Nikolai Foster, with choreography by Joanna Goodwin.

An Officer and a Gentleman plays Newcastle Theatre Royal Monday, May 13 until Saturday, May 18 2024.
