Firefighters remain on the scene of a large-scale fire at a landfill site in Hartlepool more than 24 hours after the blaze broke out.
At around 8am on Tuesday (January 23), firefighters were called to the Seaton Meadows Landfill Site following reports that a large pile of tyres was alight.
After arriving on the scene, fire crews worked to put out the worst of the flames and dampen down the smoke - while police and ambulance crews were also seen at the landfill site.
Despite putting out the majority of the flames, smoke continues to billow out of the scene on Wednesday (January 24), with Cleveland Fire Brigade issuing some new images and information.
Residents and businesses who are close to the landfill site should still keep their windows shut - while firefighters will be staying on the scene 'for some time' to allow them to monitor the fire.
A spokesperson for Cleveland Fire Brigade said: "Crews remain at the scene today (24 January) and are continually monitoring the situation. At present, there are three fire engines in attendance. The nature of the issue means that we will remain on site for some time and there will be smoke in the area for the foreseeable future.
"Therefore, our advice remains - all residents and businesses within the area are encouraged to keep doors and windows closed and minimise time spent outside.

"If you must go outside, we would advise you to minimise your exposure and limit the amount of time you spend outside in the smoke.
"If you experience any symptoms, please seek medical advice by calling NHS 111.
"We would like to thank our blue light colleagues and partner agencies who we are working closely with and to the public for their cooperation at this time."
