A van driving in the North York Moors was blown over in the high winds of Storm Isha - with the driver of the vehicle managing to get away by taking refuge in a nearby pub.

Fire crews were called to the village of Church Houses at about 10am on Monday (January 22), following reports of a 'weather-related' incident at the location. 

According to North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, when they appeared on the scene, they found a van had blown over in the wind.

The driver of the vehicle, who had minor injuries from the incident, had taken refuge in a nearby pub to wait for the emergency services. 

Firefighters, which had attended from Danby, Pickering and Kirkbymoorside all provided first aid to the driver before paramedics arrived. 

The fire crews also taped off the vehicle, and the van was recovered later on Monday. 

A spokesperson for the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews from Danby, Pickering and Kirkbymoorside responded to a report of a crash.

"Crews located a van that had been blown over in the wind. The driver of the vehicle had managed to exit the vehicle and had been transported to a local pub to await the arrival of ambulance crews by a passing member of the public.

"Crews made the vehicle safe and provided initial first aid to the driver until the arrival of ambulance crews.

"Crews cordoned off the van with incident tape to prevent further calls before the vehicle was recovered."
