A new segment has been added to The Dalemain World Marmalade Awards and Festival, but one fruit preserve fans may savour.
One of the event’s sponsors, Newcastle-based insurance broker, Lycetts, is behind the introduction of an unusual new category.
Entries are being invited for the Lycetts Signature Savoury Marmalade, specifically to go with fur, fish or fowl.
Peter Knowles, Lycetts Sales and Marketing Director, said: “We wanted to show that marmalade is not just a preserve for the breakfast table, and we are hoping for some innovative entries.
“The awards are typically British and perhaps slightly eccentric, but there is a serious purpose as they raise money for hospice charities, which is why Lycetts was keen to get involved and offer its support.”
Would-be entrants can submit their marmalades for any category at Lycetts Bank House base in Pilgrim Street, Newcastle, up to or on Friday (January 26).
The awards, which began in 2005, and now attract thousands of entries from around the world, have so far raised more than £250,000 for charity.
As well as the competitive element, visitors can buy products and hear panel talks about all things connected to marmalade at the festival, at Dalemain Mansion and Estate, alongside the River Eamont, in Cumbria, on Saturday April 20.
