For the second place, The Burtree Inn in Darlington is rated four stars out of five from 514 reviews, putting it in a favourable place. 

Boasting vegetarian options, vegan choices and a range of cuisine, it's the Sunday roast that stands out for many people on the reviews.

One person said: "It never fails to live up to high standards of food we have only been in a big family group last few years for special occasions and it is always 100% for quality of food service by staff and price. Well done to all involved."

The Copper Beech, Neasham Road, Darlington

The Copper Beech can offer customers a classic Sunday dinner for a fair price, while also offering a great service.

The venue has received four-and-a-half stars out of five for food, service and value.

It’s also managed to pick itself up a TripAdvisor 2021 Travellers’ Choice Award.

The venue has scored 257 five-star reviews and 65 four-star reviews out of 380 altogether.

One person said: “We arranged a family get-together on our last visit back to the UK. The service was fantastic and the friendly banter with the staff was brilliant. The atmosphere was casual and relaxed. There was a wide range of meals all reasonably priced. Would recommend The Copper Beach to family and friends for a good night out."

The Otter and Fish, Hurworth-on-Tees

The Green Tree, Spennymoor

The Green Tree Country Pub & Restaurant is a traditional English country Inn situated in picturesque Tudhoe Village, the gateway to the beautiful Wear Valley district and is still only three miles from Durham City.

Online, it has impressed a range of people, with one person saying: “Looked on searchforsites for a dog-friendly motorhome stopover for the night.

“What a find. Food was excellent, proper portions as well. Staff were excellent and very dog friendly.

“Staff could not do enough. Food was very reasonably priced. Locals were very friendly as well. Could not fault the place.”
