A Mercedes was left without its roof following a crash in County Durham that saw a large 999 response. 

Emergency services were called to the A68 near Tow Law at around 2.50pm, following reports of a collision on the stretch of road.

Police cars, ambulances and fire engines were seen at the incident - with the road partly blocked for around an hour. 

Images at the scene show a Mercedes without its roof and parts of the car left by the side of the A68, while other images show a police car and ambulance parked up on one side of the A68.

While Durham Police haven't yet confirmed certain details of the incident, the fire service and ambulance service have noted that there were no injuries during the collision - but someone did need rescuing from the scene.

A spokesperson from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said: “Shortly before 2.50pm today (Tuesday), we received a report of a collision on the A68, between Harperley and the junction near Tow Law.

“Two crews, one from Cook and a further from Bishop Auckland, were despatched to assist with a rescue from a vehicle.

“Crews left the scene shortly after 3.40pm.”

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "We were called to a road traffic collision today (16 January) at 14:09pm on the A66 in Tow Law, Bishop Auckland. We dispatched one ambulance crew to the scene, no further treatment was needed."
