Police cordoned off a street in a North East town centre as an air ambulance landed as part of a large emerency response to a medical incident today (Tuesday, January 16).

One person was taken to hospital after several police and ambulance vehicles attended Linthorpe Road, in Middlesbrough and the Great North Air Ambulance landed at nearby Albert Park.

The road was closed between Albert Park and Parliament Road in both directions near the Dorman Museum, while emergency services attended the incident.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to an incident on Linthorpe Road in Middlesbrough today (16 January) at 14:47pm.

"We dispatched two ambulance crews, one clinical team leader and were supported by our colleagues at The Great North Air Ambulance Service.

"One patient was taken to James Cook Hospital by road."

A spokesperson for the Great North Air Ambulance Service said: "Our critical care team was activated at 2.57pm to reports of a medical incident near Linthorpe road in Middlesbrough.

"They arrived on scene at 3.04pm and worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service to assess and treat a patient.

At 3.24pm the patient was taken to hospital by the North East Ambulance Service, accompanied by our team."
