Three people have been taken to hospital following a seven-car collision near a primary school in Teesside. 

Emergency services were called to the A1032 in Middlesbrough at about 9.30am on Monday (January 15), following reports of a multi-vehicle collision. 

After arriving on the scene of the incident, which was near to Archibald Primary School in Middlesbrough, the road was closed for around an hour and a half to allow paramedics and police to work at the scene.

Cleveland Fire Brigade confirmed the number of vehicles involved in a statement to The Northern Echo.

A Cleveland Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "Cleveland Fire Brigade were called on 15/01/2024 at 09.32 to an RTC on Ayresome Grange Road in Middlesbrough.

"Three fire engines were in attendance from Middlesbrough and Stockton.

"Seven vehicle RTC, two casualties removed from one vehicle and in hands of NEAS and a third casualty assessed by NEAS.

"Crews made scene safe. The stop came through at 09.56."

Paramedic teams have since confirmed that three people were taken to hospital.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 9.27am this morning (Monday 15 January) to reports of a multi-vehicle road traffic incident on the A1032 in Middlesbrough.

"We dispatched three ambulance crews to the scene and transported three patients to The James Cook University Hospital for further treatment."
