Two people have been arrested in connection with a criminal investigation into the death of a child.
Emergency services were called to Frosterley Drive in Darlington at 9am on Friday morning and the youngster was taken to Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle in a critical condition.
Durham Constabulary has today confirmed the child has since died and a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
A woman has also been arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing serious injury to a child.

A police spokesperson said: “Sadly, the child died passed away this afternoon.
“A man in his 30s has also been arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing serious injury to a child, and has been further arrested for murder.
“A woman in her 40s has been arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing serious injury to a child.”
“Both remain in police custody while further inquiries are carried out.”
