Five people have been taken to hospital after a crash on the A689 this evening (Friday, January 12).
Emergency services were called out to the A689 in Hartlepool in the Sappers Corner area shortly after 7.30pm on Friday evening.
Two cars were reported to have collided and five people have been taken to hospital by paramedics.
The road has been closed by police while crews work at the scene.
It is not yet known how long the road will be closed.
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 7.32pm to reports of two vehicles involved in a road traffic collision on the A689.
“We dispatched four ambulances, a rapid response paramedic and a clinical team leader to the incident. We treated five patients before conveying to hospital."
The Echo has contacted Cleveland Police for further information.
A fire brigade spokesperson said: “We got the call at 7.34pm.

“We had three appliances in attendance, one from Hartlepool, one from Stockton and one from Billingham.
“We administered first aid at the scene.
“Crews came away at 8.33pm. Police and the ambulance service also attended.”
