A shopkeeper has been left with cuts to his hands and head after being threatened by a man with a knife in Darlington on Thursday (January 11) night who then proceeded to rob his shop. 

According to police, the incident happened at around 9.40pm at the Krish shop, near the junction of Burnside Road and Geneva Road.

It's reported that after threatening the shopkeeper with a knife, the suspect stole several bottles of alcohol from behind the counter and ran off towards Geneva Road.

The victim, a worker at the shop, was left injured, with lacerations to his hand and head as a result of the incident.

Following the shop incident in Darlington, Durham Police are now investigating the incident and have appealed for information from members of the public. 

Detective Sergeant Liam Robertson, from Darlington CID, has described the frightening nature of the incident for the shopkeeper and has urged anyone with information to get in touch.

He said: “This was a frightening experience for the victim, and he was very lucky not to have suffered more extensive injuries.

“We are conducting enquiries into the incident and would like to speak to anyone who witnessed it or was in the area at the time.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage showing a man running away from the scene carrying bottles of alcohol.”
