Police are treating the death of a woman whose body was found on a North East street as not suspicious.
Cleveland Police have said they are not treating the death of a woman found in the Gilmour Street area of Thornaby on Monday (January 9) as suspicious following a post-mortem examination.
This comes after police were called to the report of a body on the street and a woman was declared dead at the scene yesterday.
A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: “The death of a woman whose body was found in the Gilmour Street area of Thornaby on the morning of Monday 8th January is not being treated as suspicious following a post mortem.
“A file will be prepared for the Coroner.
“Our thoughts remain with the woman’s family at this extremely difficult time.”
The death had previously been treated as ‘unexplained.’
In a statement yesterday, a Cleveland Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called around 6:30am today, Monday 8th January, to a report of a woman’s body found in the Gilmour Street area of Thornaby.
“The woman was declared dead at the scene.
“Police have now informed the woman’s family and our thoughts remain with them at this extremely difficult time.
“The death is currently being treated as unexplained at this time and a post mortem examination will take place.”
