Police are appealing for witnesses after a suspected aggravated burglary in Darlington.
The incident happened on Bondgate just before midnight on the evening of January 3.
One man has been hospitalised after suffering head and arm injuries, he remains in hospital.
Detectives are appealing to anyone who might have noticed anything suspicious going on in the area to get in touch.
A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Police are appealing for witnesses following reports of an aggravated burglary at an address in Darlington.
"The incident happened on Bondgate, shortly before midnight on the evening of Wednesday, (January 3).
"One man suffered head and arm injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
"An investigation has been launched and detectives are keen to hear from anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the area at the time of the incident.
"Witnesses should call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident reference 429 of January 3."

Violet Brien, who works at the locksmiths on Bondgate, said: "They (the police) have been there since before 9 o clock.
"There have been numerous vehicles there.
"I think it’s to do with the Indian restaurant across the road."
