One person has been taken to hospital following reports of a person in "difficulty" on the coastline of County Durham.

Emergency services gathered at Nose's Point in Seaham just after 11am following reports of an incident on the cliffside. 

The coastguard service attended the scene of the person in "difficulty" and alerted fellow first responders who have since taken one person to hospital.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We received call at 11.03am this morning to reports of an incident at Nose’s Point in Seaham.

"We dispatched an ambulance crew, a clinical team leader, two crews from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), and requested support from our colleagues at the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

"One patient was transported to the James Cook University Hospital by road for further treatment."

Durham Constabulary have confirmed they attended the call.

A spokesperson said: "Police were alerted at 11.15am to a concern for the welfare of a man at Nose’s Point, in Seaham.

"Paramedics also attended the scene and have taken the man to hospital for treatment."

A coastguard spokesperson said: "Seaham, Sunderland and Hartlepool Coastguard Rescue Teams have been responding to a report of a person in difficulty at a cliff near Seaham.

"The alarm was raised at around 11am on January 3.

"Also alerted were Northumbria Police, Durham Police, Durham Fire and Rescue Service and North East Ambulance Service."

A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called to assist our colleagues at Durham Constabulary with a cause for concern for the welfare of a man at Nose’s Point in Seaham.

"The call came into CDDFRS control room at 11:24 this morning on Wednesday the 3rd of January.

"Four appliances from Seaham, Peterlee and Newton Aycliffe attended the incident. They left the scene at 1:40pm."
