Cleveland Police have found a body in their search for a missing man from Stockton.

Matthew Jones, 50, has been missing since December 19, 2023.

Officers stated that their thoughts are still with those who knew Matthew at this time.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "Officers searching for missing 50-year-old Matthew Jones from Stockton have sadly located the body of a man. 

"Our thoughts remain with those who knew Matthew at this extremely difficult time.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Coroner."

They had previously described Matthew as a white male, 6ft tall, stocky build with dark brown hair which is tied back in a ponytail, a beard and facial hair.

Cleveland Police have said he sometimes wears a cap and may also have his dog with him, a small white and tan Jack Russell terrier.
