Durham Constabulary have revealed that three men and two women have been arrested in connection with an incident that occurred in Consett in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
One man in his 30s sustained a stab wound to his chest and was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary where he remains with what is not believed to be a life-threatening injury.
Another man also in his 30s was also taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary after sustaining a facial injury.
The incident occurred on Front Street in Consett, County Durham where police had cordoned off the area from Maddison’s Coffee Bar and Bistro, also covering the alleyway beside the café that leads to the back of Palmerston Street.
The five individuals that have been arrested in connection with the incident remain in police custody. Durham Constabulary has launched an investigation into the incident.
The police statement reads: “Police were called at about 2.20am this morning (Wednesday, December 27) to Front Street, Consett, following reports of a disturbance.
“One man, in his 30s, sustained a stab wound to his chest and was taken to hospital where he remains with what is not believed to be a life-threatening injury. A second man, also in his 30s, received hospital treatment for a facial injury.
“Three men and two women have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in police custody.

“An investigation has been launched and anyone with any information is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident reference 41 of December 27. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
North East Ambulance Service confirmed the incident this morning and The Great North Air Ambulance attended the scene in a Rapid Response Vehicle.
The Great North Air Ambulance said: “Our crew were activated at 2.44 am to an incident in County Durham. Our doctor and critical care paramedic went to the incident via our Rapid Response Vehicle, they arrived on the scene at 3:07 am, and worked with NEAS to stabilise the patient. The crew accompanied the patient to the hospital by road.”
