Chris and Rosie Ramsay had Newcastle Utilita Arena in stitches during their final show on their acclaimed arena tour this year. Darcie Rawlings was among the audience and here's what she thought of the live podcast show.
The tour saw two bustling arena shows in Newcastle – an extremely impressive turnout for the South Shield’s comedy duo. The show on Saturday (December 16) opened with a slideshow and commentary that outlined the origins of their world-famous podcast.
The comedy couple noted that the presentation now contained some cancelled celebrities such as Philip Scofield and Will Smith. Chris even joked that Will Smith had slapped both himself and Rosie when they met him on the Graham Norton Show – long before his Oscar bust up with Chris Rock, which had the arena in fits. Opening with some Vengaboys to liven up the crowd, with an undeniable chemistry Chris and Rosie had the audience on their feet before the show had even begun.
After receiving criticism for their 2021 tour advertorials mid show the pair made light of the criticism and decided to do a spoof of ads where Chris mocked different activities - Rosie did have to reign Chris in during his critique of horse riding (excuse the pun).
Chris and Rosie joked that even though the Utilita arena car park is home to Newcastle Winter Wonderland this festive season and not open to gig-goers – it wasn't needed as the last time they performed in Newcastle the arena broke records for alcohol consumed, so it was unlikely that many in the crowd would be driving anyway.
The podcast has been a smash hit since the first episode, and understandably so as the relatable and silly humour makes for easy listening – and it similarly works well as a live show.
Much to the surprise of the audience, a briefcase covered in beef-style wrapping paper (a beef case Rosie explained) hovered down from the roof of the arena to introduce the What’s your Beef? segment which heard some hilarious gripes that audience members had written in for the show, about friends, family and partners. The stories were all amusing and made more so by the couple, whose reactions and comments to the 'beefs' filled the arena with laughter.
Later in the show, Rosie even dressed as a cartoonish character of her period named the blob– which ended in an entirely emotional and peculiar rendition of Celine Dion’s All By Myself.
Chris also announced he was traumatised by the arrival of the costume for Rosie’s ‘period bit’ which was made by the designers of the Masked Singer's costumes - as it resulted in a very awkward encounter with the delivery driver and his young son when the costume burst out from its box.
The two-hour show was filled with many crude and disgusting anecdotes that the crowd loved.
After an interval, Chris and Rosie played a game of 'Spin the Wheel' which showed emojis and images that would relate to a story written by an audience member.
In this segment, the Newcastle Utilita heard some interesting horror stories – one where an elderly lady ended up in A&E with her hips dislocated and legs in the air after a raunchy night in a hotel and another that involved an activity called 'urban frubing', which received a mix of laughs and gagging from the audience.
The show also featured a rap battle between Chris and Rosie, a feat we are sure many couples wish they could do – however perhaps not so bravely in front of an audience of 10,000. Despite the fact the couple were brutally offending each other, sparks were flying on the stage and the couple’s chemistry shone through.

It was evident that as the final show of their tour and on their home turf the show was incredibly important to the couple – between jokes about Rosie’s dad and nan sitting in the crowd the pair explained how grateful they are to be able to have a live show tour.
The arena had an electric atmosphere with fans praising the show on social media.
Ending with Crazy in Love, Rosie’s voice was truly fantastic, and Chris wasn’t bad either – we might have Newcastle’s very own Beyonce and Jay-Z.
