Today we name five people who were fined in court after failing to comply with community protection notices requiring them to remove waste from their gardens and yards. 

Their cases were heard at Peterlee Magistrates' Court, where brought under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

Magistrates were told they failed to follow the notices issued by Durham County Council.

The following prosecutions have taken place:

•  Daniel Plows, from Maglona Street, Dawdon, who was driving around South Stanley fully loaded with scrap metal failed to stop and speak to the Neighbourhood Wardens. A Section 34 producer was issued to the registered keeper of the vehicle which requires the owner to produce documentation of their Waste Carriers License and receipts. The male failed to produce these documents and was therefore issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of £300. The male failed to pay this so a case file was therefore prepared for the courts and they now have a total of £1399 to pay.

• Jacqueline Watson, from Conyers Gardens, South Pelaw, has been prosecuted for allowing their dog to stray. They were issued a Fixed Penalty Notice of £100 however failed to pay so a case file was prepared for the courts. They now have a total of £538 to pay fines and costs to pay.

• Tiffany Walker, from Fulforth Way, Sacriston, has been prosecuted for a littering offence. They were issued a Fixed Penalty Notice of £150 however failed to pay so a case file was prepared for the courts. They now have a total of £438 to pay fines and costs to pay.
