A couple travelled up from Surrey to get engaged at a live podcast show in a Newcastle arena this weekend.
Zoe Taylor 24, from Surrey had the surprise of her life when her partner got down on one knee during the Sh**ged Married Annoyed live podcast show on Saturday (December 16)
The couple travelled for six and a half hours from Surrey on Friday, December 15 to see the show at Newcastle Utilita Arena, the final and home-town show of the Sh**ged Married Annoyed Tour 2023.
Joshua Hyson, 25 also from Surrey decided to plan the engagement in May after securing tickets for the live podcast show in January as an anniversary gift for Zoe, who is a long-time listener of the podcast.
Zoe who has listened to the podcast since 2019 is confident she’s seen every single episode of the show and is an avid listener during her commute to work.
Zoe especially wanted to attend the Newcastle show due to it being the most local show for Chris and Rosie Ramsey, who hail from South Shields, Tyne and Wear.
She said: “My friend introduced me to the podcast right before lockdown, there were around 100 episodes already and I just listened to them all.”
The couple pre-emptively emailed into the show to be a part of their What’s your Beef segment, a part of the show involving the public writing in to share their pet peeves about partners, friends and family, where Zoe had accused Joshua of being too last minute.
Convinced their write-in would never be read out in the show Zoe chose to nip out for a toilet break right before their ‘beef’ was read out.
Unfortunately, this meant boyfriend Joshua who had planned his proposal for this time was left on the big screen alone waiting for Zoe’s return.
When she arrived back at her seat boyfriend Joshua gave an impressive and heartfelt speech to the audience and proposed. Of course, Zoe said yes, and the crowd erupted into celebration for the couple.
She said: “I could hear Joshua talking on the microphone and then Chris started to talk to me, I didn’t know what was going on.
“I would never have imagined in my wildest dreams that he would do that, I asked him if he was nervous and he said yes, but he absolutely didn’t show it.”
Chris himself even commended Joshua for being so calm and collected standing in front of the full arena which at full capacity seats over 11,000 people.
Zoe said: “it was so funny that my ‘beef’ was about him being so last minute, when he had planned the proposal months beforehand, he completely proved me wrong.”
The couple also had the opportunity to meet Chris, Rosie and their family backstage at the show where the South Shields duo gave some marriage advice to always listen to each other.

“The next day we were going down in the lift to breakfast in the hotel and everyone was congratulating us, we couldn’t believe it, it’s so surreal.”
Before the couple travelled home they made sure to pay local landmark, The Angel of the North a visit and they say Newcastle will always be an incredibly special place to them now.
The Zoe and Joshua currently have no immediate plans for a wedding but hope to be married in 2026.
