If you looked up at the sky in the early morning or late evening over the weekend, you might have noticed it had a beautiful red and purple hue to it.

For those lucky enough to see it and capture an image of it, there were plenty of locations over the North East where people saw the breathtaking skyline.

From Darlington to Roker and from St James' Park in Newcastle to Sherburn Hill and the Durham Dales, the sky definitely captured the imagination of a lot of you over the weekend.

We have pieced together our favourite 11 images of sunset and sunrise from over the weekend, both from The Northern Echo Camera Club, as well as news agencies PA and North News.

These images are surely unrivalled.
