As 2023 has now drawn to a close, there is much to look forward to in the new year as Darlington Hippodrome reveals its spring 2024 shows.

The theatre promises an eclectic mix of comedy, drama, dance and a variety of music including traditional family favourites, mesmerizing dance productions, heated drama and sing-along worthy musicals.

The Northern Echo: Varna International Ballet

In January, Darlington will see the return of the Varna International Ballet who will present Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker from Friday, January 26 to Sunday, January 28.

For stand-up comedy lovers there is plenty on offer including a night with Ed Byrne on Sunday, February 4, Frankie Boyle on Friday, March 1 and Stewart Lee on Saturday, March 16.

The Northern Echo: Julius Caesar by Icarus Theatre

March will also see the brand-new production of Julius Caesar by Icarus Theatre Collective that will utilize state-of-the-art digital technology alongside classic theatrical magic to wow crowds.

There is also plenty for opera lovers at the Hippodrome with fan favourite Verdi’s La Traviata from the Ukrainian Opera and Ballet on Thursday, March 21, as well as Puccini’s Madama Butterfly on Friday, March 22.

Fans of musical theatre will be delighted with the hilariously satirical Oh What A Lovely War from Thursday, March 28 to Saturday, March 30 and the international hit musical Kinky Boots will have the audience toe-tapping at the start of May, a production presented by DarlingtonOS.

Further into the new year there is even more to look forward to, with intense drama in a new take on the Oscar Wilde classic The Importance of Being Earnest.

Another new production hitting the stage is School for Scandal and traditional play What the Butler Saw. As well as the spooky Haunting of Blaine Manor, and the all-time favourite The Mousetrap.

The stage will also see many loved and familiar faces to Darlington such as Giovanni Pernice, Anton Du Beke, The Halle, Dr Michael Mosley, Smokey, Dear Zoo, Ben Fogle, Justin Hayward, and all time classic Sooty, to name but a few.
