Residents in County Durham are being reminded about some changes to their bin collections across the Christmas and New Year periods. 

Durham County Council’s collections will take place as normal up to and including Friday, December 22.

From Tuesday, December 22 to Friday, December 29, collections will take place one day later than normal, starting from Wednesday, December 27 to Saturday, December 30.

Normal collections will resume on Tuesday, January 2.

Residents can check their collection dates online by entering their house number and postcode into the ‘My Durham’ section of the council’s website here.

Meanwhile, there will be no large waste (bulky) collections between Saturday, December 23 and Monday, January 1.

Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) across the county will be open as normal over the festive period, except for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Members of the public are encouraged to check before visiting a recycling centre, particularly in case of bad weather.

Real Christmas tree collections will also be available in the New Year, beginning from January 8.

Residents can book a free collection online here or by calling 03000 26 0000 up to Sunday, January 7.

Local charities such as St Cuthbert’s Hospice and Butterwick Hospice Care are also offering a collection of real Christmas trees in parts of the county for donation.

This is not a council service. and booking and any donation is an arrangement directly with them.
