A new café operated by an RAF veteran has opened in Richmond.

The Nutrition Hut will be based within the Richmond Swimming Pool and offer a range of refreshments.

David Routledge, who served for 14 years, has described how excited he is to start his new venture.

The RAF veteran hopes to create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere.

He said: "I want to provide a place where people can relax, enjoy a cup of coffee or a sandwich, and chat with their friends or family.

"I want to give back to the people who have supported me through my service and beyond.

"I think this cafe will be a great addition to the Richmond Swimming Pool.

"We have had a great reaction from people here over the last couple of weeks.

"From word of mouth there are now people popping in who have just heard about the lovely food.

"We try to keep the food healthy and affordable.

"Just this morning we have had 25 people in and it's only early.

"I even offer nutrition plans for the people using the pool."

He also intends to hire staff from the veteran community because he understands how hard it can be to find employment after leaving the military.
