A mountain rescue team turned out in strength to help a walker in difficulty along the Cleveland Way yesterday (Saturday, December 10). 

Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team dispatched two Land Rovers while members also took to their personal vehicles after they were alerted to reports of a walker having problems near the Kepwick Bank Top, south of Osmotherly at about 2pm.  

The woman who was feeling unwell and had become disorientated was helped later recovered and was escorted safely back to her car.

The Northern Echo:

A spokesperson for the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team said the woman was contacted by the call officer as the team members made their way to her.

He said: "By then she was feeling better but unable to make any progress, especially on the incline sections of the walking route.

"She appeared to be well equipped in terms of clothing although getting cold and was advised to remain where she was.

"Whilst both Land Rovers were sent to her location, approaching from different directions along the Cleveland Way, some team members who live closest reached her first using their own vehicles and were able to confirm that she was safe and well.

"After getting warmed up she was well enough to be transported in one of the Land Rovers back to her car at Square Corner."

In addition to ten team members who arrived at the rendevous point, six others were otherwise involved or en route when stood-down.

The incident had lasted abouit 2.5-hours hours by the time the vehicle crews returned to their base.
