Thousands of Newcastle United fans travelling to London for the Spurs game have been hit by train disruption with many services cancelled.
LNER says that due to severe damage to overhead lines between Peterborough and Grantham - on the East Coast Mainline - yesterday (Saturday, December 9), customers are advised not to travel today (Sunday, December 10).
The operator said: "The lines remain blocked today between Peterborough and Grantham to allow repairs to be made to the overhead line.
"Customers with tickets dated December 9 or 10, 2023 can use their tickets for travel on December 11 or 12. Alternatively, you are able to obtain a refund from the point of purchase.
"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to your journey today."
One passenger described the situation as 'sheer pandemonium'.
The disruption is expected to remain until the end of the day with a number of trains originally scheduled to be going from Newcastle to London Kings Cross.
The 07:55 service has been cancelled due to the damage of the overhead electric wires while a number of other trains have also been cancelled.
There are planned services that are still running but will terminate early, meaning away supporters will need to change trains or make alternative arrangements.
The Northern Echo's Chief Sports Writer Scott Wilson is on the train to London to cover the Spurs match.
He said at 10.40am "I’m currently on a train that’s stopping at Grantham - about 7-800 Newcastle fans on.
"They’ve said there’ll be a “small number” of buses to try to get people to Peterborough where trains are running from.
"They’re saying they’re working on the line to try to fix it but fans are obviously worried about trains back tonight being cancelled and being stuck in London. The game is a 4.30pm kick off."
