You might think a holiday to the coast or Northumberland’s most scenic lakes is only ideal for summer but in fact, it could be the “tonic” to your festive plans.
With that in mind, The Boat House in Belford has been named among ‘the 10 glorious lakeside winter stays around the UK,’ according to The Guardian.
This property is situated above the water at the Middleton Hall Estate and is the perfect spot for relaxing by the twinkling lake in the late winter sun (with endless boating views).
The publisher said: “From romantic hideaways to fun-filled activity centres, a few days by the water is the perfect seasonal tonic.”

Northumberland holiday home among UK’s best lakeside winter stays
The Guardian commented: “Situated on the family-owned Middleton Hall Estate, the Boat House is set in a wonderfully secluded location overlooking one of two private lakes.
“Elevated above the lake’s shoreline, floor-to-ceiling windows bring the shimmering water into the spacious living area, meaning you can be warm and cosy inside while still enjoying the tranquil lakeside views.
“Sleeping two, this is a great choice for a romantic few days away, with walks through the grounds, the chance to spot otters gliding through the water and the dramatic coastline at Seahouses and Bamburgh just a short drive away.”
The Boat House is around 12km from Bamburgh Castle, whilst Alnwick Castle is only 28km away if you want to make the most of the North East’s historical attractions.
Three-night breaks are available to book from £595 via the Middleton Hall website.
