Twelve County Durham residents have been fined in court this week after failing to clear their gardens and leaving waste and rubbish dumped in them.
The prosecutions, brought by Durham County Council were heard in Peterlee Magistrates' Courts on December 5.

The county council prosecutes people in court after they have issued Community Protection Notices to people - trying to work with the residents.
Here are the 12 people who have been in court for the offences this week.
- Colin Storey, of West Street, Grange Villa, Durham - On or before March 16, 2023 at Grange Villa being an individual to whom a community protection notice had been issued, failed to comply with the notice in that in respect of waste in the yard of West Street, Grange Villa, Durham. He was fined £440, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £176, and costs of £531.
- John David Bloomfield, of Tenth Street, Horden - On or before February 3, 2023 at Horden being an individual to whom a community protection notice had been issued, failed to comply with the notice in that in respect of waste in the garden of Tenth Street, Horden. He was fined £220, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £88, and costs of £456 - totalling £764.
- Elisha Ferens, of Canterbury Crescent, Willington, Crook - On or before February 10, 2023 at Willington being an individual to whom a community protection notice had been issued, failed to comply with the notice in that in respect of waste in the yard of Canterbury Crescent, Willington. She was fined £220, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £88, and costs of £418 - totalling £726.
- Rachel Hood, of Wynyard, Chester-Le-Street - On or before March 22, 2023, at Chester le Street being an individual to whom a community protection notice had been issued, failed to comply with the notice in that in respect of waste at Wynyard, Chester le Street. She was fined £220, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £88, and costs of £230 - totalling £538.
- Samantha Gibson, of Fairfields, Delves Lane, Consett - On or before March 22, 2023, at Consett being an individual to whom a community protection notice had been issued, failed to comply with the notice in that in respect of waste in the yard of Fairfield, Delves Lane, Consett. She was fined £440, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £176, and costs of £418 - totalling £1034.
- Lewis Neil Nord, of Park Terrace, Peterlee - On or before February 3, 2023, at Horden being an individual to whom a community protection notice had been issued, failed to comply with the notice in that in respect of waste in the yard of Londonderry Terrace, Easington Colliery. He was fined £220, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £88, and costs of £531 - totalling £839.
- Rebeca Tecaru, of Raby Avenue, Easington Colliery - On or before February 9, 2023 at Easington Colliery being an individual to whom a community protection notice had been issued, failed to comply with the notice in that in respect of waste in the garden of Raby Avenue, Easington Colliery. She was fined £220, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £88, and costs of £531 - totalling £839.
Following the court fines, a spokesperson for Durham County Council said: "Our aim is always to work with residents when we have reports of waste in gardens however sometimes, residents refuse to co-operate which then leads us to prepare casefiles for the courts."
