It has been revealed that a discount retail giant will be taking the place of another retail giant which entered administration earlier this year.
A Washington Galleries spokesperson has revealed B&M will be opening in Unit 65-68, the site previously occupied by Wilko.
They revealed customers can expect the new store in 2024.
A spokesperson for the shopping centre said: "B&M to join The Galleries, Washington!
"Taking over the old Wilko shop location, B&M will be the newest shop to join us, with an expected opening date in early 2024."
Residents reacted to the news with glee and excitement, and said they were looking forward to the new addition.
One said: "Love it! The Galleries is so much better than Sunderland! Lots of free parking and great stores!"
Another said: "Great news, however, miss Wilko"
Meanwhile, another resident said: "Oh my God! This makes me so happy."
This comes after employees at the Wilko in Washington said their farewells to residents and shoppers before their closure on October 3.
They thanked their loyal customers for their support over the last 11 years.
Workers at the store left a signed notice inside informing shoppers of the closure and bid customers farewell.
The sign read: "To all of our loyal customers. We want to let you know we are closing our doors for the last time on Tuesday, October 3.
