The Met Office has extended a yellow weather warning for snow and ice covering parts of the County Durham, Teesside and North Yorkshire.
The warning, which will be in place from 6pm on Saturday to 12pm on Sunday, covers Darlington, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Northallerton, Shildon, Thirk, and other locations.
But the weather warning doesn't extend to Durham, Newcastle or Sunderland.
The weather service warned that some roads and railways are “likely to be affected” by the conditions with longer journey times by road, bus and train.
The Met Office added that there would probably be some icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths resulting in “some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces”.
The Met Office have predicted a very frosty morning on Saturday (December 2) with a risk of ice on untreated surfaces, with patchy freezing fog slow to clear.
This will be followed by dry spells which will remain mostly dry as those around the region continue to feel the cold.
There will be a maximum temperature of 2 °C today, with the North East expecting a minimum temperature of -3 °C tonight.
This evening will see clear skies and a widespread frost, with a chance of some snow arriving later tonight.
On Sunday (December 3), the forecaster has predicted the weather will remain generally dry, cloudy and very cold.
