The Met Office is predicting another bitingly cold day in Darlington today.

After snowfall yesterday temperatures are expected to stay low throughout the day.

Following a frosty start to the day with patches of freezing fog there might be some sunny spells in the afternoon.

They are also predicting a very chilly clear night which will see temperatures plummet.

There will be highs of 3C and lows of -3C, with the sun due to set at 15.45pm.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Frosty start with any freezing fog patches slow to clear. Otherwise a fine, dry but cold day for most with sunny spells.

"A few wintry showers will continue to feed into some eastern coastal areas. Maximum temperature 3 °C.

"Very cold with clear spells and widespread frost.

"Wintry showers into eastern coastal areas increasingly staying offshore, with some icy patches possible on untreated surfaces.

"Freezing fog patches developing inland. Minimum temperature -5 °C."
