Several vehicles have become stuck in snow closing a County Durham road in both directions, police have warned.

Durham Constabulary has warned the A181 at Silent Bank, in Shadforth, near Durham City, has been shut.

A force spokesman said: “Officers are in attendance as several vehicles are currently stuck in the snow.

“Please avoid the area to allow the route to be cleared.

“Heavy snow continues to fall across the region and motorists are advised to only travel if necessary.”
